Traditional Aikido in Chesterfield

Welcome to our new website. We are an aikido club training in a traditional style of Aikido based at St Patrick's Church Hall, High Street, New Whittington, Chesterfield, S43 2AL

Aikido is a relatively modern Japanese martial art developed by Morehei Ueshiba sensei in the 20th Century based on many ancient arts he had studied. It can be used for self defence, and aims not to use lethal force against an attacker.

The word can be split into three pieces:

Ai means "harmony",

Ki means "energy, or spirit",

Do means "the way, or path".

Aikido can be studied by people of all genders and ages.

You can look at our Style of Aikido page for more information on the origins of Aikido or if you have any questions, our frequently asked questions (Aikido FAQ) page may provide you with some answers.

Practice is open to beginners as well as experienced aikidoka, the details of training times are available on the Class Schedule page.

Rowan Aikido Club is a member of Shobu Aikido UK which is part of the British Aikido Board (BAB) the governing body recognized by the sports council for Aikido in the UK
